Forklift operator training

General qualification with theory, driving practice and an examination under DGUV Principle 308-001 (DGUV = the German Social Accident Insurance institutions and their regulations) as the basis for the operational assignment.

Overview

The training under DGUV Principle 308-001 conveys theory, driving physics, stability as well as practical driving and stacking skills. After theoretical and practical examinations, successful participants receive a qualification record and an operator permit for industrial trucks.

In this qualification you get to know the design, function, driving behaviour and limits of use of industrial trucks. Theory, driving and stacking exercises and a theoretical and practical final examination prepare you for safe operational use.

Under Section 7 of DGUV Regulation 68 or 69, industrial trucks with a driver’s seat or driver’s platform may be operated independently only by suitable persons who are at least 18 years old, who are qualified, who have evidenced their competence and who have been assigned in writing.

General qualification – Stage 1

The general qualification forms Stage 1. Its scope and practice time depend on prior knowledge and learning progress; both examinations remain required. In the operation of use, the equipment- and operation-specific qualification and the written assignment for the specific industrial trucks and operating areas follow.

A prerequisite for participation is a minimum age of 18 as well as physical, mental and personal aptitude. Exceptions for young people are possible only within a vocational training scheme under expert supervision.

Outcome: a qualification certificate and an operator permit for industrial trucks under DGUV Principle 308-001. Duration: generally 3 to 5 days or 20 to 32 teaching units; of these, at least 10 teaching units of theory.

Participants with evidenced prior knowledge

Existing knowledge and practical experience are assessed before the start. Any reduction must not replace the required theoretical and practical content or the two final examinations. The required scope is determined after this assessment.

Operational qualification and assignment

The general qualification does not replace the equipment- and operation-specific qualification in the operation of use. Only after that may the employer issue the written assignment for the specific industrial trucks and the respective operating area.

Annual instruction

A prerequisite for participation is an existing qualification and operational assignment. The outcome is the ADLER Academy refresher and instruction record. Duration: 3 lesson hours.

Frequently asked questions

How long does forklift operator training take?

The DGUV principle provides for the general qualification generally 3 to 5 days or 20 to 32 teaching units. The specific scope depends on prior knowledge and practical skill.

Is the forklift licence enough for use in the operation?

No. In addition, an equipment- and operation-specific qualification and the written assignment by the employer are required.

Can the training be shortened where there is prior knowledge?

Evidenced knowledge and practice can be taken into account. The necessary content and the theoretical and practical examination cannot be omitted as a result.
