Overview
This training on PPE against falls from height covers the inspection, correct fitting and intended use of full-body harnesses, lanyards and anchor devices. Practical exercises to DGUV Vorschrift 1 (an accident-prevention rule issued by the DGUV, the German Social Accident Insurance institutions and their regulations) prepare participants for typical work situations.
Personal protective equipment against falls from height is only used where higher-priority technical or organisational protective measures are insufficient. Participants assess systems, clearance, fall factor and anchorage options and practise with the equipment provided. For a fall or suspension emergency, an effective, site-specific rescue plan must be in place.
Instruction with practical exercises
How do you use a full-body harness, lanyard and anchor devices safely? What must you consider before starting work and after a fall?
In this training you learn to check the personal protective equipment against falls from height provided, to fit it correctly and to use it as intended. You identify suitable anchorage options and practise safe use under realistic conditions.
PPE against falls from height may only be used where higher-priority technical or organisational protective measures are not possible or not sufficient. For emergencies, an effective rescue plan must be in place.
Who should attend
People who use PPE against falls from height regularly or occasionally.
A minimum age of 18 applies to this course. Participants must be physically fit enough to carry out the practical exercises safely. Whether occupational health assessment or a separate aptitude assessment is required is determined by the employer on the basis of the risk assessment.
Basic instruction and annual instruction
Basic instruction: 6 teaching hours. Completion: training and instruction record for the use of PPE against falls from height.
Annual instruction: 3 teaching hours. An existing basic instruction for the PPE against falls from height in use is required. Completion: continuing-education and instruction record from ADLER Academy.
The stated hourly formats are ADLER course formats. The PPE system, tasks, rescue plan, prior knowledge and practical exercises determine the binding scope.

Frequently asked questions
How often must the instruction be repeated?
The use of PPE against falls from height must be instructed regularly and at least annually with practical exercises. Changes to the task or equipment may require earlier instruction.
Why is a rescue plan required?
After a fall, a person suspended in the fall-arrest system can be at risk within a short time. The rescue must therefore be planned, equipped and practicable.
Does PPE against falls from height replace technical fall protection?
No. Collective technical and organisational measures take priority. PPE against falls from height is used where these measures are not possible or not sufficient.
