Re-stamping authorisation — transferring material markings reliably

ADLER CertConsulting supports manufacturers in setting up a controlled re-stamping process, so that material markings and the associated certificates remain clearly assigned even after semi-finished products are cut.

Re-stamping authorisation: keeping material identity after cutting

When a pipe, plate or section is divided, the original material marking can remain on only one of the resulting parts. For pressure-bearing components it must still be possible to trace which material each part came from and which material certificate belongs to it.

ADLER CertConsulting supports manufacturers and specialist welding businesses in setting up a controlled re-stamping process and in preparing for confirmation by the competent body.

Linking material and certificate unambiguously

Re-stamping does not begin only when a mark is struck. What matters is the reliable identification of the source material. Material, batch or heat, dimensions and certificate must remain clearly assigned before and after division.

We review the route from incoming goods through storage and cutting to production. From this, a process emerges that also accounts for remnants and interim storage.

Governing authorised persons and personal stamps

People authorised to re-stamp need the necessary knowledge of materials and marking. Their tasks, stamp marks and deputies are defined clearly. The stamps are secured against unauthorised use and every transfer is documented traceably.

Preparing the re-stamping agreement

Naming a person internally is not enough. The competent test or certification body assesses the company procedure and confirms the persons and scope according to its own requirements. We prepare the documentation and the practical demonstration and support the handling of findings.

Linking with HP 0 and material control

For manufacturers working to AD 2000-Merkblatt HP 0 (the German AD 2000 code of practice for pressure equipment), re-stamping is part of a wider control of materials and quality. Even so, the authorisation is governed separately and for a defined scope. We make sure that the re-stamping process, incoming goods, certificate checking, storage and production documentation fit together.

Frequently asked questions

What does re-stamping authorisation mean?

It allows named persons to transfer material markings onto parts or remnants within a confirmed company procedure. In doing so, the link to the original material certificate must remain fully traceable.

Is naming a re-stamping-authorised person internally sufficient?

No. The person is proposed internally and needs the necessary expertise. The procedure, the person and the scope must be assessed and confirmed by the competent body in line with the governing requirements.

Is re-stamping authorisation automatically included in HP 0?

No. There is a technical connection between HP 0 manufacturer qualification and re-stamping. However, the transfer of material markings requires a specifically governed and confirmed procedure.

What has to be documented for a re-stamping?

The record must at least allow the clear assignment of source material, part, marking, material certificate and responsible person. The precise extent follows the agreement and the applicable rules.

Can materials with an inspection certificate 3.2 be re-stamped?

Special restrictions or additional agreements may apply here. Under the test and certification regulations of TÜV Rheinland, for example, an additional arrangement can be made for certain small parts. The specific case should be agreed with the competent body before division.

Does the authorisation apply at every location?

Not automatically. It applies only within the confirmed scope. Sites, assembly locations, further premises or changed processes must therefore be taken into account in the agreement or assessed separately.
