Overview
HSEE risk management connects risk assessment, work procedures, interfaces and permits. ADLER produces or reviews RAMS in the sense of Risk Assessments and Method Statements, develops project-specific PTW (permit-to-work) processes and supports LMRA (last minute risk assessment) before work begins. For hazardous energies, project-specific LOTO (lockout/tagout) or energy-isolation processes can be structured and coordinated.
RAMS: Risk Assessments and Method Statements
RAMS describe which hazards are associated with an activity, how the work is carried out and which protective measures apply. A review examines, among other things, the project context, work sequence, responsibilities, qualifications, work equipment, interfaces, emergency measures and the need for change.
The executing employer’s technical responsibility for its risk assessment and safe working method remains in place.
Permit to Work
Permit to work creates a formal release and coordination process for defined activities. This can include hot work, work in confined spaces, interventions in pipework, electrical or mechanical isolations, lifting operations and other high-risk activities defined for the project. The permit confirms defined preconditions for a limited scope and period; it replaces neither RAMS nor the risk assessment.
LMRA: Last Minute Risk Assessment
The LMRA is a short final risk check immediately before work starts or after a change. It helps the work team check whether conditions, protective measures and the work permit still match the actual situation.
Hazardous energies
For hazardous energies, the energy sources, isolation points, stored energies, responsibilities, labelling, verification of the safe state and re-commissioning are considered. The term LOTO can be used where the project uses it; the applicable requirements and the agreed procedure remain decisive.

Does a permit to work replace the risk assessment?
No. The permit is a complementary release and coordination process for defined activities. The risk assessment and the safe work procedure are still required.
